Saudara Cup 2009

"We wish to GO DOWN THE MEMORY LANE OF MALAYSIAN AND SINGAPORE CRICKET by inviting all former cricketers and officials, lovers of the game to join us during this auspicious three days of cricket in the sun and share glorious moments in the shades of the pavilions and lush grounds of the Johor Cricket Academy," said Harjit adding that he wishes to emphasise that JCC will restore this tournament to its original significance and glory. It fully deserves as the oldest existing cricket tournament in this region by way of providing the honour and due respect to former players, officials and others who contributed to the game.Arrangements are being made for accommodation for outstation golden oldies which also include providing transport for senior golden oldies from a central location in Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru and return. There will be an exhibition of Malaysian Cricket history during the Saudara Cup with an invitation to the Official Dinner for those early birds who confirmed their presence. There will be also hospitality facilities during the match.  

Former stalwarts like Dr Alex Delikan, Gurucharan Singh, Arputham Christie, Mike Shepherdson, Zainuddin Meah, Zainon Mat, Karu Selvaratnam, the Nair brothers namely Balakrishnan, Banerji and Muralee, Jagdev Singh, Danny Saurajan, Toh Chooi Beng, Mohd Haris Abu Bakar, Koo Kim Kuang, Azmi Majid, Asgari Stephens, Tan Kim Heng and Dennis De Silva from the Malaysian side are all household names in the Saudara Cup series. 

From Singapore, names like Cecil Cooke, Reggie de Silva, John Martens, Steve Houghton, Stacey Muruthi, Pritam Singh, Mukhtar Ahmad, Khwaja Imran Hamid, Lawrence Young, Goh Swee Heng, Rasheed Thayar Mohamed, M.Jeevanathan and Wong Hoe Sang are not easily forgotten.  

"I sincerely would like to appeal to all ex-internationals to kindly come forward and make this initiative a real success for the future of Malaysian and Singapore Cricket," quipped Harjit adding that their urgent response will enable them to ensure the success in their efforts to get together the cricketing fraternity as 40 years of comradeship. It will bring together all of them for an nostalgic occasion which the seniors will definitely cherish for a long time to come.
